It’s Valentine’s Day! A day to proclaim your love and show affection for that special someone in your life. It’s also a day that’s heavy on the sweets. Even those without a significant other likely have chocolate on the mind today. So to help satisfy your sweet tooth (and impress your sweetie) Astrid rounded up seven of her favorite chocolate desserts.

A Valentine’s Day classic, you can’t go wrong with chocolate fondue. If you have a good base recipe for the fondue itself, you’re free to go dip whatever your heart desires. Favorites for dipping include strawberries, marshmallows, and cubes of pound cake. But really anything you think will taste good covered in chocolate is up for grabs.

Another classic chocolate dessert, a molten chocolate cake is sure to please. A spoonful of chocolate ganache in the center lends this cake it’s trademark hidden gooey deliciousness without the cake seeming under cooked. Whether topped with whipped cream or served a la mode this dessert will fulfill any chocolate cravings.

While there probably weren’t many Valentine’s Day brunches going on this year considering the holiday fell on a Wednesday, these chocolate waffles are perfect for surprising your sweetie with breakfast in bed. Or you can top them with ice cream for the perfect bressert (breakfast/dessert – a term we may have just come up with right now).

Looking to spice things up a bit? These brownies will give you all the chocolatey goodness you’re looking for with an added kick. They get their heat from chipotle peppers, whose smokey spice pairs perfectly with the earthiness of chocolate. They can be served with a dusting of powdered sugar or with a cinnamon frosting.
Chocolate Tart with Pretzel Crust

For those of you who dig the sweet/salty combo this is the dessert for you. Inspired by chocolate covered pretzels this tart has a crushed pretzel crust, plus pretzels on top for garnish to give it the perfect balance of salty and sweet. This recipe calls for milk chocolate, but fans of the darker stuff could easily substitute semi- or bittersweet chocolate.

If you’re looking for the perfect brownie to serve a la mode, look no further. Baked in a cast iron skillet this brownie is rich, fudgy, and designed to be served warm. Top with ice cream and hot fudge and you’ve got yourself a winner. Come to think of it, this might not be a good Valentine’s dessert after all – you might find yourselves fighting over who gets the last bite!

For those of you who enjoy chocolate, but don’t want to be overwhelmed by it, the chocolate fudge cheesecake is an ideal choice. Between the chocolate-pecan brownie base and a thick chocolate glaze you’ll still get your chocolate fix. But the rich traditional cheesecake filling sandwiched inside will give your tastebuds a bit of variety. This recipe isn’t the best choice for last minute planners though, as it requires some serious chill time in the fridge before serving.
If you weren’t hungry before starting this post, you probably are now! With so many delicious options, it’s going to be difficult to decide which to make. What’s your favorite chocolate treat? If you make any of these recipes, let us know how they turned out in the comments!
